The new Daily Wire documentary “What is a Woman?” by Matt Walsh provides frightening insight into the horror of gender ideology and the many contradictions and falsehoods of transgenderism that run amuck on social media and go unchecked by so-called authorities. It was the most disturbing documentary I have ever seen, but it is very important that everyone–especially parents–watches it.
Matt Walsh asks a simple question, “What is a woman?” to university professors, psychologists, and medical doctors (some who perform gender transition surgeries on children as young as 16), but everyone fails to answer the question. They either claim Walsh is being “transphobic” for simply stating the truth or stop the interview altogether because they are “emotionally overwhelmed,” though the more likely scenarios are they fear backlash or don’t have a real argument.
The Left prides itself on women’s rights, so it seems like an important part of that discussion would be knowing what a woman is. If one identifies as a woman but cannot characterize a woman, how can they claim womanhood as their gender identity? In the age of not wanting to offend anyone and ritualized online backlash , we have lost the ability to safely disagree without being called transphobic or homophobic. Disagreement does not equal phobia, and just because we disagree with someone does not mean we hate them or are afraid of them.
A heartbreaking yet powerful interview in the film with Scott Newgent, a trans man, exposed the lie that medically altering peoples’ biological sexes leads to happiness. Newgent said that his sex transition surgery failed and had devastating health consequences, stating that he got infections every month and was unsure if he had much time left. He is not alone in his negative experience post-op; “detransitioners,” or people who turn back on their transitions to return to their birth gender, have received online and international attention in recent years, much to the chagrin of trans activists. Newgent expresses concern for the reckless regard of children’s health, as now some states have passed laws allowing minors to receive sex-change surgeries or puberty blockers even without parental consent. Scott Newgent wrote in a Tweet, “I have been angry for so long about what medical transitioning has done to my health, how pharma and surgeons are making millions butchering people without regard and the LGBTQ allowing fetish flags to be the backbone of homosexuality.”
Another father in the documentary was arrested for addressing his trans daughter with the wrong pronouns, and the misgendering was treated as abuse the same as if he caused physical harm to his child. It is mentioned in the film how kids are known for their wild imaginations and always changing their minds and developing new interests. The thought that some parents willingly mutilate their young kids and cause permanent damage to their bodies before they are old enough to make their own decisions is terrifying. A medical professional that Matt Walsh interviewed denied giving “drugs” to kids (drugs being puberty blockers and hormones), taking issue with his language and not her own heinous acts. She told Matt that he was using hurtful terms when he called the treatments “drugs,” though Oxford defines a drug as “a medicine or other substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body.”
It was also mentioned in the documentary how biological males are now allowed in women’s sports and restrooms. Biological post-puberty males have an astronomical advantage over women and have already smashed records while competing in women’s categories. It makes many women uncomfortable to share a restroom and locker room with a biological male, but voicing concern is seen as insensitive. Every parent and athlete should be concerned about this from both safety and fairness standpoints.
“What is a Woman?” challenges what we are told we cannot say in the public square but confirms what I believe most of us think: women are women, men are men, and those facts are defined by biology and are immutable. I believe it is a valuable watch for anyone and everyone.
